Managing Conflict Across Cultures: Academic Reading and Vocabulary
College academic reading and vocabulary pack built around the reading "Managing Conflict" (Reading 3, Unit 13 Culture) from Perspectives (I. Rozenberg, Oxford University Press, 2015), adapted from Adler et al., Interplay, 3rd Canadian edition (Oxford University Press, 2012). It covers direct and indirect conflict-resolution styles in North American and East Asian cultures, the Japanese concept of wa (harmony), self-enhancement and self-criticism research, collectivistic and individualistic approaches, and conversational styles across Western cultures. It also covers First Nations approaches to conflict, and how self-concept, biology, upbringing, status and the culture of each relationship shape the way people handle disagreements.
