Summary

Compare candidate strategies with QSPM

From: PepsiCo Strategic Planning: SPACE, Grand Strategy, and QSP Matrices

The QSPM carries weighted internal and external factors from Part I into a structured comparison of candidate strategies such as Cost Leadership and Differentiation. Strategies should be derived from earlier BCG, IE, SPACE, GRAND, and SWOT analysis.

Scoring logic

  1. Carry each factor and its weight into the QSPM.
  2. Assign an attractiveness score for each strategy when the factor affects the choice.
  3. Do not give both strategies the same nonzero score for one factor; use 0 for both when the factor does not affect the choice.
  4. Multiply weights by attractiveness scores and sum the results as Total Attractiveness Scores (TAS).

Compare TAS with the supporting evidence and assumptions; the highest score is a decision aid, not an automatic decision.
