Ethical Challenges in Care of Older Adults: Fagerberg and Bollig Journal Articles

This study pack provides two peer-reviewed journal articles on ethics in the care of older adults and nursing home residents. The first article by Ingegerd Fagerberg and Gabriella Engström (International Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Well-being, 2012) uses phenomenological hermeneutics to illuminate the meaning of caring for older people as experienced by health care students and professionals, covering ethical moral self, organizational actions, and relations with older persons and relatives. The second article by Georg Bollig and colleagues (Scandinavian Journal of Caring Sciences, 2015) investigates nursing home staff opinions and experiences with ethical challenges, including systematic ethics meetings with residents’ relatives, lack of resources, end-of-life decisions, and use of restraints. Together these materials teach ethical practice, organizational issues, and relational dynamics in geriatric and chronic-illness care.
